1. Christmas Lantern Kids Craft

We have started decorating our classroom for the season. I wanted the decorations to be personally made by my students and made from scraps and other recyclable materials. During our Arts and Crafts time yesterday we made Christmas lanterns/parol. A parol is a traditional Christmas ornament in the Philippines. it is usually made from bamboo sticks and special papers. The basic design is a star, which is a representation of the star of Bethlehem.

I forgot to take pictures of the materials we used. But here is the list:

    • Old cds
    • sequins
    • glue
    • Discarded Christmas ornaments

The first thing we did was draw a star pattern on the cd using glue. This serves as the kids’ guide on where to put the sequins.

Then the kids pasted the sequins on the star pattern. They also used the discarded Christmas tree ornaments.

After that we added gold and green foil papers for the tassels. Then we stick glued a ribbon at the back to serve as the handle. We hanged our parol  in our classroom. And ta da! Here it is!
